Central Government and Local Authorities
Getmapping empowers government bodies with intelligent geospatial solutions that drive smarter decisions, more efficient services, and effective long-term planning.
How We Help
Getmapping is the proud holder of Lot 3 of the Aerial Photography of Great Britain (APGB) contract for the Geospatial Commission. Through this program, we provide public sector organisations with seamless access to current and historic aerial imagery, including a national archive dating back to 1999. More than 4,500 public sector bodies across the UK are eligible to access this data via the APGB contract.
Our streaming services eliminate the need for manual data management, enabling teams to work with high-resolution, date-stamped imagery directly within their mapping platforms. From planning and enforcement to environmental monitoring and infrastructure design, our data supports faster, more informed decision-making.
We work closely with local authorities, emergency services, environmental agencies, and central government departments to help address complex challenges through accurate, accessible geospatial data.

Practical Applications
Active Travel
Local authorities face mounting pressure to create safer, more sustainable travel networks, yet a lack of visibility and outdated data often stalls progress. Getmapping provides high-resolution aerial imagery that helps councils identify walking and cycling routes, uncover infrastructure gaps, and prioritise improvements. With access to historic imagery, planners can track change over time, strengthening funding applications and community engagement efforts. Our data also supports equity by visualising accessibility across neighbourhoods, ensuring active travel networks serve all users.

Ash Dieback
Councils are pressured to manage the growing threat of ash dieback, yet traditional inspection methods are time-consuming, costly, and often reactive. Getmapping’s AI-powered heat maps detect changes in canopy health early, helping teams prioritise inspections and target interventions more effectively. Every tree is mapped with centimetre-level accuracy, including height, crown size, and health indicators, ready for integration into GIS and asset management systems. Our surveys are fast, repeatable, and safe, enabling long-term monitoring, supporting funding bids, and reducing environmental impact.

Asset Management
Managing public assets across large estates or infrastructure networks is complex, especially when data is fragmented or out of date. Getmapping captures high-resolution 360° imagery and 3D LiDAR to deliver a complete, accurate view of assets such as highways, utilities, and buildings. This data reveals asset condition, location, and degradation trends, helping teams plan maintenance, justify investment, and meet compliance requirements. Seamless integration with GIS and asset registers streamlines workflows and supports smarter, data-driven strategies.

Green Space Management
Urban green spaces are essential for public wellbeing, climate resilience, and biodiversity. Managing them effectively requires accurate and up-to-date insight. Getmapping supports local authorities and central government with high-resolution aerial imagery and mobile mapping to map and monitor parks, green corridors, and biodiversity zones. Our data enables evidence-based planning and maintenance by assessing accessibility, usage patterns, and vegetation health. It also supports tracking of seasonal changes and long-term trends, helping to strengthen biodiversity strategies, climate action plans, and funding bids.

Highway Projects
Planning and maintaining road infrastructure is resource-intensive and often delayed by limited site access or outdated data. Getmapping provides high-resolution aerial and street-level imagery that supports every stage of a highway project, from design to delivery. Mobile mapping and LiDAR offer centimetre-level accuracy for assessing road conditions, signage, barriers, and kerbside assets. This data integrates directly into CAD, GIS, and asset management systems, reducing the need for site visits and accelerating project timelines.

Kerbside Management
Councils face increasing demand to manage kerbside space more efficiently, yet many lack the data needed to make informed decisions. Getmapping maps kerbside assets such as parking bays, loading zones, EV charging points, and street furniture with centimetre-level accuracy using mobile mapping. This visual data supports smarter policy decisions around accessibility, usage, and infrastructure gaps. It also streamlines Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) updates and enforcement by integrating directly into GIS and asset management systems.

Monitoring and Evaluation
Public sector organisations often struggle to demonstrate progress or impact without consistent, location-based evidence. Getmapping delivers repeatable aerial and mobile mapping surveys that allow teams to track changes in infrastructure, land use, or vegetation over time. This data supports funding applications, policy reviews, and stakeholder reporting by providing a clear visual record of what’s changed and why it matters. With reliable, geo-located insights, decision-makers can plan with confidence and measure outcomes more effectively.

Road Network and Infrastructure
National and local road networks are under constant strain from ageing infrastructure, increasing traffic, and limited budgets. Without accurate, up-to-date data, planning upgrades or prioritising maintenance becomes reactive and inefficient. Getmapping captures high-resolution aerial imagery and mobile mapping data to give transport authorities a detailed, centimetre-accurate view of road conditions, assets, and surrounding environments. This enables teams to identify infrastructure gaps, monitor asset health, and visualise change over time to inform investment and operational decisions. By integrating seamlessly with GIS and CAD systems, our data reduces reliance on site visits and accelerates project delivery.

Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs)
Managing and updating TROs is often a manual, time-consuming process that leaves room for error and inconsistency. Getmapping helps councils digitise and visualise TROs with high-accuracy mapping that supports enforcement, compliance, and public transparency. By integrating TRO data directly into GIS and asset management systems, updates become faster and more efficient. This approach improves operational performance and ensures kerbside and signage data remain accurate and up-to-date.

Urban Planning
Planning teams need accurate, up-to-date data to make informed decisions, yet often rely on outdated maps or incomplete site assessments. Getmapping provides high-resolution aerial imagery and mobile mapping that supports planning, site evaluation, and infrastructure design. Our data enables teams to monitor development over time, assess environmental impact, and visualise accessibility, green space, and land use across communities. This helps ensure planning is inclusive, evidence-based, and aligned with long-term sustainability goals.
