With current economic volatility and the challenge of doing more for less, organisations are changing how they work. As a result, Mobile 3D Mapping technologies are rapidly replacing traditional survey methods. These technologies deliver operational efficiencies and offer exceptional agility.
Getmapping works with thousands of organisations across National Highways, TfL, and other major construction projects. Meanwhile, we’re seeing growing demand for engineering-grade survey data delivered in days or even hours. Traditional methods often take weeks to produce the same results.
Mobile Mapping is super agile and enables teams to complete projects quickly. Rapid mobilisation, efficient data capture, and smart processing allow us to deliver data and insights fast.
Why Is Mobile Mapping Faster
Mobile Mapping uses vehicle-mounted 3D technology to digitise the built environment. It provides ground-level, high-resolution 360° images and accurate object measurements using high-density point clouds.

3D scanners capture everything the eye can see from a moving vehicle travelling at normal speed along the carriageway.
Teams can rapidly mobilise and deploy Mobile Mapping. This approach removes the need for ‘boots on the ground’ and avoids the time-consuming process of arranging permits and logistics.

Getmapping operates multiple scanners. This allows customers to run several projects at once without managing complex logistics for surveyors across different locations.
Why Is Agility Important
The ability to mobilise and deliver results quickly is hugely important in an increasingly competitive market. Agility enables fast project turnaround and allows teams to do more while improving operational efficiency. Mobile Mapping is up to 10 times faster than traditional survey methods and cuts costs by 25%.

Real Life Examples
Mobile Mapping digitises highways, towns, cities, and even entire countries in a fraction of the time traditional surveys require.
Example 1
In 2020, Getmapping mapped the entire National Trunk Network for the Danish Road Directorate. This included over 10,000 km of motorways, connected roads, and many of Denmark’s bridges. Impressively, the team completed the project in just six months.
They captured hundreds of line kilometres each day and finished all mapping within three months of the project start date. Subsequently, Getmapping processed and delivered the data in phases. This approach provided usable and relevant information for immediate analysis.
Today, the Directorate uses the data to monitor and maintain the road network from the safety of the office.
Example 2
More recently, Getmapping helped a customer meet an urgent TST Topographic framework deadline. The team mobilised the technology and completed the survey within 24 hours.
Providing Easy Access to Data
Mobile Mapping imagery and point cloud data integrate easily into existing GIS systems. Alternatively, teams can process the data for automated feature extraction and deeper insights. Additionally, users can access the data through a portal like Getmapping’s SmartView.
SmartView enables users to work with the data in a smart, intuitive way. It offers tools to view, measure, manipulate, and annotate images and point clouds. Consequently, this supports informed insight and better decision-making. SmartView also provides access to Getmapping’s high-resolution aerial photography. This offers a comprehensive ‘ground up, air down’ view of the environment. As a result, users can cover all angles and fill in any difficult-to-see areas.
